We look forward to welcoming you at the beginning of your studies at the University of Bayreuth! On our website you will find lots of important information on organisational procedures as well as an overview of all relevant dates. Check back regularly to stay well informed.

Organisational information

Information on the student user accountHide

When you enrol at the University of Bayreuth, a student user account will be created for you which entitles you to use the various online services of the University and the IT Service Centre. If you have not received an e-mail after successful enrolment, please contact the Student Administration Office (please also check your spam folder).

First steps in cmlifeHide

Cmlife is the central platform for managing your studies. Among other things, you can view course dates, register for courses and examinations, view your grades and download study certificates.

Information on your UBT-Campus-CardHide

The Campus-Card of the University of Bayreuth serves as a student ID card. It is issued after enrolment and contains your personal data as well as a chip card with which you can use various university services.

Webmail / student e-mail addressHide

The university sends official notifications to the e-mail address set up for you: btxxxxxx@uni-bayreuth.de. You can access your e-mails at https://mail.myubt.de. Please make sure that you receive the e-mails that are relevant to you.

Proof of enrolmentHide

You can download your proof of enrolment and other certificates directly in cmlife. You can find these printouts in the ‘Studies’ section. You can log in to cmlife with your user ID and the password you have chosen.

Creating a timetableHide

Creating a timetable is an important first step in your studies. All the relevant information is provided in the introductory event, but it is still a good idea to familiarise yourself with it in advance. This way, questions can be clarified and the semester can start smoothly. The Central Student Advisory Service offers an information page with helpful tips and instructions.

Events before the start of your studies

Events for international students Hide

Our Welcome Services offer a special orientation week for international first-year students. Participation is compulsory!

  • When? In the week before the start of lectures
  • Registration: All admitted international students will receive an invitation by e-mail.
  • Contact: Welcome Services
Webinar ‘Welcome to the university’ / ’Willkommen an der Uni’ (in German)Hide
  • When? Two alternative dates, about two weeks and one week before the start of the lecture period
  • Content: The Central Student Advisory Service of the University of Bayreuth invites all new students to two digital information events at the start of the semester. Among other things, you will receive information on organising the start of your studies, the CampusCard and important documents for creating your timetable. You will also find out everything about introductory events, the university canteen, WiFi access, library use and much more - and of course there will also be time for your questions.

Online maths pre-courseHide

Whether you are studying engineering, economics, science or computer science, mathematics plays an important role in many degree programmes. You can also use an external online programme for independent preparation: the Online Mathematics Bridge Course OMB+ (in German).

Seminar ’How does studying work?’ / ’Wie geht Studieren?’ (in German, only at the start of the winter semester)Hide
  • When? only in the winter semester, in the week before the start of the lecture period
  • Content: University works differently to school: there are semesters instead of school years, lecture theatres instead of classrooms and lectures without compulsory attendance. Suddenly you have to organise a lot of things yourself. At the ‘How does studying work?’ event, the team from the PULS service centre will give you tips for a successful start to your studies, provide information about advice and services and will be available to answer your questions.

Online introduction to cmlifeHide
  • When? at the beginning of the lecture period
  • Content: In the introduction you will get to know cmlife, the campus management system of the University of Bayreuth. You can use cmlife to plan your studies, register for examinations, obtain study certificates and much more. One course is offered in English for students of all faculties.

Registration for placement tests at the Language CentreHide

In order to take part in a language course at the UBT Language Centre, it may be necessary to take a placement test. As the information may differ depending on the language, please read the information pages of the Language Centre carefully.

Start of lecture period

Introductory eventsHide
  • When? Usually on the first (and second) day of the lecture period
  • Content: Every degree programme and every teaching subject offers its own introductory event, which usually takes place at the beginning of the lecture period. There you will receive important information about your degree programme, study procedures, examination regulations and much more. Many of the university's service centres (e.g. Language Centre, library, etc.) also offer introductory events.
  • Programme: Introductory events in the summer semester 2025 (website in German, programme also available in English)
Enrolment session in Bayreuth and welcome event in Kulmbach (only at the start of the winter semester)Hide
  • When? Only in the winter semester, first day of the lecture period
  • Content: The enrolment session is a university-wide event at which the university administration warmly welcomes new students. At the subsequent campus evening, you will have the opportunity to get to know your future fellow students in a relaxed atmosphere and find out which student initiatives suit you best.
    A ‘Welcome Event’ is also offered for new students on the degree programmes in Kulmbach in the winter semester.

Start of lecturesHide

Regular courses usually do not start on the first day of the lecture period, as the introductory events take place on this day. In the following days, you should definitely attend the first dates of the courses, as you will receive important information on course registration, access to teaching materials and other organisational aspects. Please also pay attention to the information from the introductory event so that you are well prepared for the start of your studies.

Registration for language coursesHide

Registration for language courses takes place via cmlife. Please note that, depending on the language, placement tests (registration before the start of the lecture period) may also be necessary.
